Base Basics: my top 3 highlighter tips for glowing skin
Follow the simple tips below for my signature “Lit From Within Look” which suits every skin tone and skin type. Follow my skincare tips below, but if you are not sure what color to use - follow this simplified guide: For fair and pale tones, you can use shimmer that has a cooler, silvery base, for medium tones, opt for champagne and light gold, for deeper tones, consider rose gold and bronze tones.
Get Glowing Tip 1: Skincare
My first tip to glowing skin is of course skincare, so please head to my skincare posts to learn more about my favorite Cleansers, Serums and Moisturizers. Using the correct products for your skin is key. If your skin is dryer, look for richer oils and moisturizers, and massage them into your skin to boost circulation.
For oil Rich, Sensitive, or Acne Prone skin, massaging is not so great, and water-based moisturizers and lighter oils will help keep your skin balanced. A gentle Vitamin C and/or Bakuchiol (retinol alternative) will help keep your skin clear and bright.
Get Glowing Tip 2: Radiance Base
Start with a radiance base or primer under your foundation, this is something I do for myself and all my clients. If your skin is prone to shine, use the radiance primer sparingly and only in certain areas like the tops of the cheeks. If your skin is dryer and you love a dewy look, opt for a wash that illuminates your skin. you can then leave it as is, or apply foundation or base thinly overtop. Please see my foundation tips here.
Many new products like the RMS Super Natural Radiance also have SPF in them and note that products like the RMS Master Radiance Base, Pai + Dr HAushka Fluids can be used over or under foundation when applied sparingly. Use your fingers or a brush for precise application.

Get Glowing Tip 3: Highlighter
I love layering Highlighter for the lit-from-within look so now that you have your radiance base on and once you have finished your foundation (if needed) you can apply highlighter to the tops of your cheeks, cupids bow, and the bridge of the nose if you wish ( I usually stick to the cheeks). Your choice of texture will depend on your skin type and preference.
In broad lines: dryer skin can hold a cream luminizer well, while oil-rich skin might do better with a powder highlighter using a fan or fluffy brush. (my favourite tools are here)
My preferred texture is a cream stick that I apply for myself directly onto my cheeks and then blend with my fingers. I am also partial to a liquid highlighter which I use with a fluffy brush or a fan brush, just like powder, but I have also been known to apply 3 layers of glow, starting with my base, then applying both a cream and a powder highlighter. You can apply a thin veil of loose powder between layers if you would like for a smoother application.
A special mention goes to Phytosugence which make an amazing cream/powder hybrid, like no other product I have tired. its is a very dry and dense cream that actrually needs a brush for best application.
